I returned to our Public Gardens today The birds on Mirror Lake were enjoying the lovely sunny winter's day as much as I was - including this pair of Canada Geese.
This species was introduced to New Zealand in 1905 when 50 birds were imported. There are now over 60,000 of them. Until 2011 it was a protected species but now is classified as a pest because of the damage they do to grazing land. There are annual culls to keep the population static. This pair and their friends are safe where they have chosen to live :)
