This is a view from the (other-half-of-the) world famous Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These towers are claimed by the Malaysians to be the tallest in the world, although us sensible folk know that the Sears Tower is the tallest. It's a beautiful structure nonetheless, and (unlike the Sears) very architecturally detailed. Alas, they only let you up to the "sky bridge", and they charge an arm and a leg for it! We couldn't go up; we came too late. :(

Oh I remember watching something about the skybridge being built, it was very interesting. I have to admit that I dont think I could walk across that bridge at all coz it looks as though it has a glass floor. I would be the wreck gibbering in the corner lol. I love this shot, I hope I get it in the VB and its going into my faves.

Excellent capture of these beautiful towers with amazing detail too. I'm not sure I would want to venture out on the footbridge as I have been to the top of the Sears Tower several times & I know what it feels like. I like this alot :-) + faves.

Actually the Sears technically isn’t taller – it has been declassified as a large portion of it is antenna fitted after the fact that does not count as part of the buildings architecture so in that respect the Petronas with its tall spires beats it. Kind of academic though, as the new Burj Dubai skyscraper obliterates both of them.

All that aside – a very striking shot of a wonderful building.

philcUK, I would debate this. The antennae on the sears tower may not be structural, and can certainly be labeled "decorative", but I would argue that the enormous spires on top of the Petronas towers serve no purpose other than to, well, be taller than the Sears tower. It's like getting breast implants. Sure, they're bigger, but they're still fake. I (personally) would judge the building height by the height of the ceiling on the tallest floor people are meant to get in. Everything above that is just an architectural peeing contest.

However, I will agree that the burj is going to render both of these buildings midgetated (hey, it's a word in my world)!

Thanks to all my friends for the wonderful images I get to look at and learn from on Caedes every day. I always have something to say about them, but don't always have the time to record it. Please forgive me if I can't comment on all of your uploads.

Take away the Petronas Spires, and the Sears TV masts and the Sears Tower is taller. Add the Sears TV masts and the Petronas Spires and still the Sears Tower is taller. In the case of Petronas the Spires are included in the height. In the case of the Sears Tower the TV masts are not. Hence the Taller Petronas. However Taipei 101 has eclipsed them both, again as long as you don't include the Sears TV masts, and disregard the CN Tower. Burj Dubai will again do the same to all of them if and when it's completed. If you want to check on these facts: http://www.allaboutskyscrapers.com/tallest_building.htm

Fantastic! I love the perfect symmetry, the rich colors, and the detail in the sky and on the buildings.
