I have studied the veins of leaves for most of my life...in later times trying to figure out how one could express any particular leaf in fractals (with no luck). "Scaffolding" is a perfect word, a great title. And I love it that someone else likes the beautiful, unique-yet-the-same pieces of nature... which remind me of our Creator and the people in the world He made.
"The more we come in contact with animals, and observe their behaviour, the more we love them, for we see how great is their care for their young." - philosopher Immanuel Kant
This is a very interesting shot and I like the way it shows the hidden details not ordinarily seen. You did a great job by showing part of the leaf whole and part in the "skeletal stage "
This is the sort of photo I would frame and hang in my house.

Wow, great stuff here. Most of all of it has been said, but I wanted to add that I like the way your mind works and that you brought this into a studio like setting and made the most of the light and shadow was exactly the ideal way to handle this. In my fave folder on my hard drive.
This leaf maybe dead, but it still holds beauty. The veins appear lacy and it looks like the whole leaf will soon be that way. I like the lighting showing through the veins causing the interesting shadows. Richard, a most lovely work you can be proud of :)
Wow...this is a REALLY cool image. The clarity with which you've managed to capture the beauty in the latticework of these leaves is just spectacular! I think your lighting is also fantastic hear, where we see the leaf structure itself brightly and clear, but get the shadows of it dancing behind it too. Well done!
