and through the woods.... This is my first upload, it's also the first time I have really gotten out and used my new camera. We went for a walk in Petersham MA and this was the highlight of the walk. Please let me know what I need to do to improve! Thanks so much!

G'day Molly,
Nice first upload.
I have a suspicion your camera exposed for the darkness under the bridge, so there is plenty of detail in the shadow but the rest of the image is a bit washed out and the snow is completely blown. Most digital cameras have the bracketing option for exposures, if you have a large memory card then it's not a problem to have it take three images for each one shot, (Or you can do it manually when you notice extremes like in this shot.) then you get a choice of exposures or you can merge two images to get the well exposed shadows and the well exposed highlights together. I think your composition from top to bottom is good. If you go to "Other Stuff" over on the left, (About level with your Avatar.) then "Rules of Composition" you'll find excellent, pithy clues you can apply to your own work. Read those then look at your photo here and see what ways YOU can work out to take this photo differently that you think might improve it. I love the solidity of your subject, I would definitely have wanted to photograph this myself. :)

It can be loving but not true or true but not loving. We need a new word - trove - lorue - something like that. :)

Welcome to Caedes! Mikel has offered a lot of very useful advice, so I will just leave it at 'very nice first post'!

I really like this river picture with the movement of the water. It is nicely centered too. :)

If you can't find the words, you may as well shoot it...
