The legends of the Azzuran tell of the Great Owl Fliss, greatest among all the Great Ones of Owlkind. Fliss was wiser and deeper than all others of her kind but, like all mortal creatures, she was flawed. Fliss was preening proud and in her pride she boasted that not even the false God Death could outwit her. As sure as moon follows sun Death came slithering to the high perch of Fliss The Great Owl and claimed his due. None but Fliss ever doubted the outcome of that meeting, Death took her as he takes all creatures, easily. Yet, it was not an unalloyed victory, Fliss departed life at Death's demand but she refused to depart Death's side once in his realm. She dogged the false God's steps at every turn and ever sought ways in which to turn aside his reaching tentacles from those who cling to life. Wise and cunning as she was, sometimes she found ways and some of those who's deaths were postponed by her interference, saw her in dreams, or perhaps even under the fading light of a True moon. Thus it was that Fliss became known as the Bane and Companion of Death. If you see her, be afraid, for Death is near, yet in seeing her you can know there is a small hope, perhaps your death is one she will postpone. So it is told in the legends of the Azzuran.
Enjoy.
