SCRUB is a term I'm pretty sure English settlers brought with them to Australia, but we adopted it as our own because it suits much of the Australian bushland. So much of the landscape is dry and in a perpetual state of being half dead or it looks that way even if it actually isn't. The lack of moisture slows down decay of plant material so the bush tends to have lots of dead stuff lying around, very messy looking in comparison to forests in wetter climates. It looks entirely scrubby. :) This was taken on the dirt road to El Dorado, Victoria. Yup, a gold mining hamlet, not much there now.
Enjoy.
