Some very rusty old farm machinery at a "Colonial Village" near my suburb. A fair bit of fiddling with colour channels and various filters and curves to push the textures and intensity of the rust to the edge of silliness. :) A tip, if you have a shot like this, with lots of similar textured and coloured objects in the frame and in focus, but you want the viewers eye to fall on one particular element - Select the element you want, with a generous feathering, then give it a slight S curve in the curves, then invert your selection so the rest of the image is selected and lower the contrast and maybe saturation just a tiny bit, won't take much, just a few percentage difference will be all you need. If you look at this image you'll see the effect, despite so many rusty bits of metal, one bit pulls your eye to it, partly composition but at least half is due to the tweak I just outlined.

Enjoy.

Mikel.

Thanks for the photographic lesson for free Mikel. Will give it a try, because the 'fiddling' (lol) that you did, has turned out very well. My compliments!

Regards, Cornelius.

Mikel....I must really be a sick SOB because I just love shots of rusting bulks. Not sure what tweaking you did but this shot is awesome. Since it never rains in California, the rust shots don't come easy around here. Naturally I love the colors and the almost abstract feel of the shot. Being so close, it's hard to guess what this was except for your detailed description of the "farm machinery" in the narrative.
