My obsession with bamboo will proceed for a few years yet. I don't have the shots which will assuage my lusting soul. Not going to get them in Australia either, bamboo is illegal here. Bamboo is amazing, it's one of the few plants that grows so fast you can, with some species, literally watch it grow if you are prepared to sit there for half an hour. It does not deplete the soil, it does not require pesticides or fertiliser, it grows fast from a root mat so harvesting doesn't slow new growth down. It can be made via lamination into square standard wood, which is beautiful, I've got some furniture made from it. It can be made into cloth! Which has amazing thermal and comfort properties. it can be made into multi storey building scaffolds and musical instruments. Bamboo ROCKS. This here is a hand held close up, no macro, just the detail I could get under constrained lighting conditions with my F2.8 lens.

Enjoy.

Mikel.

No sh*t, Mikel. Thanks for the narrative, but you certainly nailed the shot and the title. In your narrative you said, "Bamboo is illegal here". I think you meant "there". Bamboo in California is considered a nuisance and a weed. People start with a pinch of it because it looks like....well it looks neat like in your photo (except that it's typically vertical). Because it grows fast, people landscape their yards along their fences. Fences are the rage in California because we're apparently not very neighborly. Anyway, the bamboo takes off, knocks over the fence and/or grows under the fence which invariably makes the neighbor made which causes law suits since we have more attorneys here than the rest of the known universe combined.

Anyway, I like your shot. Amazing detail considering you don't consider this a macro. Is that stuff in my chop suey called bamboo shoots really made out of bamboo. Seems there's nothing this plant can't do.

Great close up Mikel.Perfect colour and texture.
Did not know bamboo was illegal in your country. Had some in a garden once. Made good plant stakes - but oh how invasive. I did love the sound of the wind rustling in the higher leaves though.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
