Trees are an endless source of wonder to me. To my eyes trees are beautiful at every stage of their development, cute when they are seedlings, generally lithe and willowy as they grow, then all kinds of amazing when full grown, whatever the season. The story doesn't end there. Starkly elegant in death-still-standing then even after their dead weight succumbs to gravity and they are uprooted, lying on their side they still radiate authority and a melancholy beauty. How many humans look beautiful in death? I've mentioned it before but in most parts of Australia Eucalyptus trees die off and dry out while still upright, many never fall over, they just wear down from the top until they are stumps in the ground. Like this one, some fall over and slowly break down into dust. Along the way they make their final declaration of their innate capacity for beauty.
Enjoy.
