I intensified the shadows and the pigment on this picture to make it more interesting.

I say this as I have seen some other portraits that produced ... well, interesting results to me ... a little ... little, more light to at least bring out the other eye.

The dichotomy in expression that results can be very intriguing. Have a look here at an example. Mikes' expression changes depending on which side of the face you 'focus' on.

If you are taking some artistic licence, I can respect that. It does appear that you have blackened out the other eye somewhat?

As a suggestion ... geez, I am full of them aren't I? :oP ... instead of the profile you employed here ... one closer to a 3/4's profile ... might present you with a better 'canvas' to incorporate your concept here.

It is an image that does draw you in. The play of light, the angular lines of the face ... and the woman here, her own self ... are visually quite stunning.

Nice work ... annnnnd ... welcome to the site. :o)

Thanks for the comments! Here is the original since one of you at least seemed curious.

I did indeed darken out most of that other eye but it was because I liked how strong the diagonal lines of light became. There may be more depth of expression in the original however.

I will post my comment here to keep things cohesive ... hope you don't mind.

Took a look at the original. (A great photo in its' own rights.)

It cemented my thoughts, if you will ... the caveat I have is that in full-size view ... the side of the face that you 'darkened?'

Strangely gets relegated to a 2D'ish plane. Bit of visual confusion for me, and that may just rest with me.

Your creative touch of the colourations, is definitely added value.

Both ... both, are quite nice and intriguing portraits.

Erm ... I need to cut back on the coffee. :oP

Nice shot here Natalie the contrast and tones a well done. The only thing I would have liked to see is a little glimse of the other eye. It looks like and empty eye socket.
