This might appear to be the sun shining through a tree or at the very least a manipulation... but it's neither... it came out of the SD card this way The photo was taken at about 6:20 a.m. this morning, during a 6" snow storm in south-central North Dakota. Where Interstate-94 passes through towns and cities across the state, very tall ring lights, with seven large flood lights, illuminate the highway from about 70 feet above. (look closely at the left side of the tree trunk, where it touches the ground, and you'll see a slight ghost image of the large pole that hold the ring lights.) This one was on the north side of the city of Mandan, the circles you see here are snowflakes melting on the lens, and the color comes from the use of a tungsten white balance. Some may find the circles to be annoying, but I feel that things that might happen to the camera as it takes photos is part of what makes the photo come alive. Some comments below have mentioned the melting snowflakes on the lens as though they were the flakes themselves. That's not the case; they're the water from the flakes but, if you recall your basic science you learned as a kid, snowflakes have six corners, not seven. If you count the corners on those melted flakes you'll arrive at seven. That comes from the number of lights in the ring. 3.20-8
