I caught this shot of Rievaulx Abbey [near Helmesley, North Yorkshire, UK] just as mid-April sunshine made the stonework glow like dessert sand, instead of being its more usual grayish-beige colour. The grass had been mown seconds earlier and clouds were scudding across an azure-blue sky. One of those days when it's good to be in England! Here's a link to brief details about the Abbey's history, in case you'd like to know more about it: http://www.theheritagetrail.co.uk/abbeys/rievaulx_abbey.htm

Beautiful place and scene! The church looks very old, and full of history. Great job=D

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes =D

A really lovely structure; how old is it? I'm a very curious person!

Great shot of this interesting structure. Nice and sharp and the colors are grand. I wouldn't mind knowing more of the history of this place. Good job.

I agree with the comments above. You've captured it beautifully. Perhaps just a tad oversaturated - but looks good.

I love these shots. The feeling of closeness with antiquity is palpable. I would have loved to have seen it before the Suppression of 1538.

I found your information, most interesting. I see the Abbeys been around since the 1300s. The image is beautifully caught. So clear - and the sky is amazing! Nothing but top marks for this image!

Not sure what I like better: the picture, or the description! Both are wonderful. What an amazing structure it must have been when still whole. But even in its state of disrepair, it has a strong visual presence. Quite wonderful, and you are right, the timing was perfect. Thanks for sharing. Quiet
