Pat, if this is a sample of what's on your 5 acres you'll probably find all kinds of things to send. i'll look forward to all of them. i've heard of thistles but can honestly say that i didn't know what they were. this one is lovely......really good. jen
You're sure doing the right thing, at least you are able to get around your land...we just moved into this lovely countryside, and its so muddy I can't even go where I want. But there are flowers beginning to peek out, and ferns and mosses, so I need to get busy where I can find things too. I think thistles have such a unique beauty about them. Their colour for one thing is so delicate...the thistles leaves look painful, but somehow when the two things combine, these plants are always pretty on a photo. I'm so glad you took this photo..V
Well done with this close-up shot pat, you have ample opportunities to do what you wish on 5 acres...plant some flowers?
I like this, it is such a simple, but great looking plant to photograph, especially with a variety of angles you could capture it!...........
What a fantastic first shot in your new series. It is amazing that something that could cause so much pain...ouch...could be so lovely. This is a beautiful and clear shot...Well done!
Thks everyone for your compliments. When I saw this after downloading it from my camera, I was blown away by the detail, not because I am a good photographer but I marveld at our Creator's expertise. Wow!
Pat
PatAndre,
Isn't it amazing how you can find such cool things in your own backyard? I read in a photography book that taking photos around the world is the best thing to do. Well, I'm thinking, "I don't have the money or time, what about me?" So, we do what we can do. And I think you did great with this!!! Congrats! Enjoy your Five Acres, and keep sharing with us.
Nicely detailed macro of this prickly plant, a beautiful thistle. IŽm sure every photographer has stopped more than once to take a photo of these beauties. You did a good job Pat.
I hope youŽll post some more macros of plants, flowers and butterflies from your 5 acres !
Hello Pat..... Concentrating on the head of the thistle has very nicely defocused the background resulting in a very fine pin sharp picture.....Every school-child in Scotland learns the legend of how the thistle, our national emblem, saved the country in the Middle Ages, when the Scots and Norsemen were at war. Under cover of darkness, the Norsemen managed to land unobserved on the coast of Scotland. Removing their boots, they crept on bare feet toward the unsuspecting Scottish army. Suddenly, a sharp cry of pain shattered the stillness: A Norse soldier had stepped on a thistle. Thus alerted to the surprise attack, the Scots sprang into action and drove the invaders from their shores....No doubt your property is well protected Pat....All the best....Mick.
