Well, here I am, still captivated by the cloud formations on the east side of the road when a beautiful sunset is forming up on the west side. Will I wake up in time to smell the roses (start shooting the sunset instead of the clouds)? SEE HERE We shall see. The good: even though Louisiana is flat, this flatness allows for some beautiful cloud viewing unobstructed by man or beast. The bad: foreground interest is practically non-existent in this open marsh/ranch country. I read something in a photo magazine several days ago about foreground interest, “If there ain’t any, DON”T take the picture.”
Well, there ain’t any and I took the picture anyway. Oh sure, I could cut and paste in some fake foreground like the editor suggested, but then it wouldn’t be Southwestern Louisiana. It would be some photo magazine editor’s idea of what an image should look like. Sorry. What you see here is what southwestern Louisiana looks like, good bad or indifferent.
I just commented on this beauty one time....not sure what happened. But this is a beauty and it looks a lot like South Alabama. Got to get back down that way soon. Beautiful clouds and wide open spaces...Love it.
As I've said, I love them wide open skies, nothing between you and heaven except the clouds... and this particular cloud is sumptuous... ocean sunsets usually don't come with a convenient foreground interest either, but I'm with you, what you sees is what you gets.
And don't worry about the sunset, we'll make you some coffee at sundown so you can wake up and smell it, hehehe...
Oh Pat, this would have me sitting obsessively in front of my monitor, playing with colors, light levels etc for hours. (in other words, I like it.. alot)
The foregound is a bit featureless, but you left in just enough to provide a natural "framing" element. Wise choice.
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
A sky watchers paradise! I dunno, for me, there is mucho interest in this foreground.... It is very flat, (as it is where I am) but it has diverse colorful contrasts and lighting. I like how both the clouds in the distance and closer ones are rolling in. Wonderful details and colors. Saved to stare at.
I agree with Count B on the "Don't Fence Me In," song Owd Momma. I expect to see Roy or Gene to ride up in your foreground and start singing. I bet that old editor would like it then. Nice straight forward post.
This is a lovely change from Urban Sprawl. Some of us would have to drive half a day to get to scenery like this. Thanks for sharing. And thanks to photoshop, you can always save those clouds for a clear sky image that needs a little help.
