A complete disregard for law and order marked the early years of Dodge City's existence. The town fathers had to hire skilled lawmen such as Bat Masterson an Wyatt Earp to establish law and order. The early Dodge had two Front Streets one on each side of the tracks. The tracks were known as the deadline. No firearms-dance halls or other types of rowdy establishments were allowed north of the tracks. South of the tracks you were on your own.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Momma, I had the intention to spend a night in the 'Great Western Hotel', but see that it's located south of the tracks.
Think I have to admire now the moonshine, not the booze with the name 'Moonshine' however, but the real moon shine in an open field, lol.

Very interesting post Pat!

Places like Dodge make for great TV shows and movies! I don't know how long I would have survived there, though. I probably would have shot myself in the foot a number of times, and some outlaw would have done me in.

It's a completely different place now. It's interesting to know the history of various places. This is one of the more notorious places in the wild West. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That's an interesting map, Pat. It's also one school yard I'd stay clear of.
