A complete disregard for law and order marked the early years of Dodge City's existence. The town fathers had to hire skilled lawmen such as Bat Masterson an Wyatt Earp to establish law and order. The early Dodge had two Front Streets one on each side of the tracks. The tracks were known as the deadline. No firearms-dance halls or other types of rowdy establishments were allowed north of the tracks. South of the tracks you were on your own.
Good piece of history...those were the rough and 'shoot em up' times eh!
