This is the Custer House at Fort Dodge located just outside Dodge City. Fort Dodge's original mission in life was to protect wagon trains, stagecoaches, mail and the railroad. Also included was the protection of Santa Fe Trail travelers from Indians etc. The structure here is called,The Custer House and was used as officers quarters. The windows on the second floor are said to once have been gun ports. Fort Dodge is currently a Kansas Soldiers Home. Most of the structures on the grounds were built after 1890 but a few structures still remain from the military years.

That is a well built structure that has stood strong for well over 100 yrs. They don't build them like that anymore. A fine photo and story.

That's a handsome old structure and it looks like it has had a new roof put on recently. I love that big porch. A very patriotic shot with Old Glory there and the banner. Nice one, Pat.
