Shot with the new Canon 40D + EF-S 60 mm macro at f8 ISO 100, 1/8 s. No adjustements made, just to let you see what the "raw" stuff looks like. I will see if I can make some plain outdoors shots soon, because I know there is a lot of interest for this new toy. To be continued...

Hi Bonnie,
thanks for your comments at orchid.
I understand about your doubts about the blurred parts of the photo. However, this shot is an example to show the capability of the new camera to capture the color gradients and the bokeh of blurred backgrounds/foregrounds.
I have absolutely no problems with anyone critisising this shot, I am just showing the unaltered shot without the post processing.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Thanks for posting this "as is" and the focus field is very interesting to me. I'm all for getting a macro lens and any and all advice or shots I can see is going to help me make up my mind. Of course this is a marvelous orchid...unusual color too!

Superb! The soft lighting's perfect for the orchids and so is the narrow depth of field. The sharp detail in the petals is simply fantastic.
