In Brig - Wallis - Switzerland. Former residence of the powerful Stockalper family. This castle can be seen from afar by its three towers topped with gleaming bulbs, planted from the road to Simplon. The enormous block of the main building has no less than eight floors, including the cellar. The great courtyard, lined with renovated galleries, is the centrepiece of this building which was inspired by the Tuscan Renaissance style.

Hey, at first glance I thought you'd photographed an M.C. Escher print I'd never seen before, with near-symmetrical character, but upon opening this to full size, I find a 5-star black & white. Some images and views don't translate well with monochromatic treatment but your regimented and austere subject matter is actually enhanced by it. It takes me back to my days of living in a darkroom, processing actual film and paper prints. Thanks for submitting it. Into my favorites file.

You did the right thing with this photo putting it on black and white.
The layout on this photo is outstanding, great detail and capture of light and darkness makes this photo 100%.
And thanx very much for writing out the history.

Beautiful architecture. I'm lovin' the curves & lines of the palace. The foreground arch presents alot of depth, so I can tell this is a grand place. The two carriages caught my eye too. At first, I thought the image itself a bit too light, but the monotones balance out nicely. Excellent capture & work Paul. + faves!

definitely some amazing architecture. The idea of framing it with the arch is brilliant and the B&W adds drama. It makes me wonder who and what lived there, and when. What happened there? The only thing that i think takes away from the shot is the girl walking through the doors.
Thanks for sharing!

Looked like a pencil sketch from the thumbnail. Interesting treatment and framing. The clouds add interest, too, I think.

Love this B/W capture and angle of this capture Paul. Has magnificent depth and detail, plus the way the arch frames the court yard.
