This combines several techniques to draw attention to the image: 1) Strong contrast in color and brightness between the subject and the background. 2) Selectively focusing on the subject (sometimes referred to as bokeh); thus, a contrast in focus. 3) A gradual increase in lack of focus as you move up the picture, which gives a strong feeling of depth. 4) Placing the object of focus on a 1/3 line.
