Near our campsite, we found a cottonwood with a cedar growing in its center.

Jeff, I know a song called 'wild flowers don't care where they grow'.
Apparently it's not only valid for flowers, 😁 !

That must be a fairly deep bowl in between the four trunks, in order to collect enough wind-blown soil to eventually grow an entirely different species of tree, between them. Good job of spotting this one, Jeff. I hope everyone who sees it leaves it alone, allowing it to grow as much as it possibly can. In fact, I think folks here at Caedes would love to see what it looks like, from the same angle and position, in late September of 2024, 2025, etc., etc. I know I'd be curious.
