The magnolia grandifloria with their dazzling southern belle skirts are still a month to 6 weeks off where I live, but the flirty little yuliania mags are out not only ahead of their big sisters but also ahead of most of their own leaves, fluffing their tepals and unfurling their petals in the still gentle sun -- the stars, the saucers, the yellow lanterns, and here, an ivory chalice.
