This image is for Marzena (SAM):

The s.s,"Stettin" (Hometown of Marzena) is an icebreaker (are you also one SAM -- someone who breaks the ice and makes people feel at ease?). She was built in the city of Stettin in Poland in 1933. She has a coal fired steam engine with 2000 HP and can break ice 3 ft thick. She was on active duty till 1982. Now she makes an occasional trip down the river with tourists.

This old lady (Hamburger Deerne, lol) is still in a perfect condition, Raj. A fine and nostalgic image to me!

Regards, Cornelius.

Thanks, Raj dear, for this nostalgic beauty. It proves that real feminine [you know it best that all them boats are women] charm is not a transitory possession. Strange enough I have not seen too many icebreakers and imagine them in shape like Nautilus from Verne's "20.000 miles under the sea" - like ships with some kind of heavy duty structure in the fore, like spear.
BTW
Have I told you that on several occasions following a delivery of a newbuilding vessel to Mr Rickmers [Bertram] his company organised trips for some 100 up to 500 people [from the shipyard and the shareholders] down the Elbe on such a newbulding? Always in summertime, needless to say and the trip lasted some hours too. I do not recall exactly at which point the ship turned back though...
As to SS Stettin I think that during my first visit to SSM in 1992 [?] some of us participated in the trip on this ship or at least visited her.
And yes, she was built in Stettin in Germany. The truth is that Szczecin never really belonged to Poland before 1945... I do not care much for political correctness but this is included in the icebreaking package LOL
Thanks for both the ship and bit of Hamburg, the city of my best years in life. One of the best as the present ones are also great since I have my co-agent Boris. HOWGH

Great image Raj and so informative. I've never given icebreakers much thought. I don't know if Marzena is an icebreaker but as a leading Agent she should be a code breaker.
