Raj, have a read through this on-site tutorial, provided by philcUK, namely;
"The sky's the limit..."
"Step 1.".. in particular, on the notes of selection, re: 'old sky' showing through structures of the cranes in the background.
Might take a few read throughs, as it did for me.. however, once you get it down.. clear sailing from that point forward and for future reference.
And don't forget the last couple of steps.. that provide an assist in presenting a polished final image for your viewers, where lines, joints, 'haloing' and old stuff showing through.. can be mitigated by an appropriate choice of Blending Modes on the respective masked areas/layers.
/\ Some creative and editing/post processing food for thought.
