I was walking around my complex one day and was struck by someone's cigarette butt. It's kinda weird what inspires me to put the camera up to my eye sometimes.
Applause from DownUnder. Full marks for taking this on, it's not easy to capture whatever it is that transforms something this simple into something with impact. How does the photographer deal with ugliness? Good for you, we need more of this type of photography here I think. :)
Unlovely photograph, including the trampled plants. Sends a message, but not one I want on my desktop. Good composition, lighting, controlled palette. Might be considered Art if you put it in a show. Personally, I don't think Art should gloss over reality, but I also think Art should make the viewer emotionally uplifted in some way. Photographic art, imho, becomes photojournalism when it discusses problems like starving children, smoking, war, littering, trampled weeds. And yes, the Caedes Praetori may well agree that photos which make people think and be motivated to fix something is a legitimate part of the photographic experience (which I think it is) and make a section on this site for such pics.
