..or, the "Lion Monument" in Lucern, Switzerland, is a tribute to the Swiss Army soldiers who lost their lives in defending the French king during the revolution in France. Regardless of the circumstances and who was right and who was wrong, the bravery, loyalty and courage of these mercenary Swiss soldiers (...who could simply turn to the French mob and the king and say "Pardon us, you may resolve your problems between yourselves...we're from Swiss and we're outta here...hasta la vista!!" but didn't) truly amazes the reader of history. The sculpture masterfully depicts the grandeur and glory of the dying lion (obviously, a symbol of the values of the soldiers). A real gem and a must-see in Lucern.

I'm glad you explained this. I thought it was a scene from The Lion King. LOL. Very nice, Bram.

I am so glad they make sculptures like these in any country to help us remember the gallantry of those before us and their endeavours and sacrifices. Without which, we would probably forget in time. Thank you for highlighting this particular sculpture and its meaning. Was this actually carved out of that rock? Would love to know. Lovely capture Bram and well done!
