It's a moth Susanne. You can tell if it's a moth because the antennae are feathery while those of a butterfly are smooth. Anyway if I'm better at boiology you are better at photography. Good shot.
Poor little gal lost half an antenna. It's dangerous out there. Mighty fine capture. The other giveaway is the way the wings are down and folded back. Butterflies cannot fold their wings into the delta configuration at rest. Moths cannot store their wings in the vertical position when they are at rest. Love all the hues and composition.

With not really knowing butterflies or moths...the different varietires Susanne...do know enough that I think this is a Moth...he does have nice color and as you say thoses eyes are something else!!...nice post...gerry
