When viewing at full size, they are like two fireworks exploding in the evening sky. Such great detail and promise of continued beauty.

Wow what a fabulous shot and post Susanne! I can't think of the name of the flower at all, but I know my grandpa used to have them. That doesn't help much does it..hehe..Love the color!

I believe these are giant allium. Very colorful against the grey background.

They do look like Alliums...beautiful flowers but the bulbs smell..they are related to Onions!

Purple is my favorite color. They pop. I love the effect. The back ground is the only draw back.

Yup, its for sure a type of Allium. My garlic used to come up looking like that, if I'd let it bloom, but the colour was a bit lighter. This is gorgeous. What a deep rich colours. A most lovely photo. Verena

These are Allium which I think are part of the onion family if I remember rightly. Either way, this is a lovely capture with great colour and clarity. Well done!

The general consensus seems to be that these are a type of Allium which I've seen before in connection with onions or garlic and always struck me as ironic considering how beautiful the flowers and how smelly the bulbs but a fabulous shot, Susanne and bursting with color.

Thank you all for the kind words and also for the info on this flower. I am going to tell my parents about it, it is growing in there garden by a fence. They got it from a friend many years ago, but they didnīt know what it was. Thankīs all!
