We drove past this spot near the end of a long drive around part of Lake Wakatipu ; the water appeared to be glowing. I insisted on stopping on the way back, although it was getting late and we were running low on fuel and had no idea when the only nearby petrol station might close... I think it was worth the risk.

This was a the shallow end of the lake where there was a river flowing into it; hence the silt was stirred up and I believe this, combined with the overcast conditions, is what cause the green "glow". Lake Wakatipu is actually the purest lake in the world outside of the antartic, the water being 99.999% pure. It is cleaner than most purified bottled water you can buy and does not conduct electricity. In fact a tour guide told us that you could use an electric drill under water with no risk of shock.

'In fact a tour guide told us that you could use an electric drill under water with no risk of shock.'

was the tour guide prepared to put his money where his mouth is? ;-) the soft jade and neutral tones work really nice on these images Sam as does the hazy effect.

Absolutely wonderful! The green glow really ads a special soft touch to the image.
Well done

What caught my eye first was the curve of the old dock.So rustic. So peaceful of a place and photo. The reflection, again, is just lovely. Then comes the glow of the gorgeous water, the purity is obvious ! And to see into the water and see the rocks I like also. Then to top the whole thing, there is the mist and the mountains! What a wonderfully composed photo Sam! Filled with peace and beauty. Verena

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained. --Marie Curie Polish-French chemist

+favs for me.

Really nice composition, Sam. Good good control on the technical aspects as well.

Gotta love the use of the tree limbs as natural framing.

That and the interesting negative space and shape, that to my eyes serve well as a guide for your viewer's eyes. Very nice flow throughout and within frame.

And for what it is worth, I prefer this portrait format and photo over that of your posting, as per request, for a desktop image. Still, nice though, the other one.
