Its actually part of a pine tree. I think thats the cones, and the pollen things. I think.

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Been noticing how diligently and graciously you've been responding to comment requests ... I shall try my best here as well.

The first thing that struck me is the central placement of your focal subject. That and the naturally leading lines of the adjacent pine needles.

Being bold here, I think in my humble opinion you could kick up the visual interest and dynamics by offsetting the cone itself. Perhaps, lower right corner ... using the rule of thirds for composition ... on the respective intersecting lines of the right hand third quadrants and then allow the needles to emanate and extend to the other sides of the frame.

Focus is good, not great. A little soft. I am guessing that this was a hand held shot? If so, investment in a tripod will go a long way. Particularly, if this genre of photography appeals to you.

And on that note, as I haven't read the accompanying narratives to all of your images in your galleries ... adding in the make and model of your camera in your narratives will provide a leaping off point for tips and advice. I don't know how much manual control you have presently, for example.

Another noteworthy suggestion ... bigger is indeed better. 1600 X 1200 resolution should be the minimum offering on your part to eliminate any bias that from time to time raises it's head in the voting booth towards smaller resolutions.

Ahh, ok ... just took note of the previous images that I had commented on. The deja vu thing was happening and the lack of caffeine at the moment was preventing my brain from recalling our previous 'conversations'.

If this is readily available to you, go back and try some differing perspectives and compositions. Given the pleasant changes that happen with pine cones, shots taken at various times of the year would not be out of the question in my eyes.

Even closer is a very viable option.

Allll that said ... good shot. The bokeh, or blurred background is a plus ... no visual distractions there and the colour palette is indeed very complimentary throughout.

An aside: "The will to hold back" ... cool shot. I like that one. Keep shooting and most definitely ... happy shooting. :o)
