True, some buildings are very run down, but the architecture is so amazing. Some buildings were from the 1890's! Strangely enough, I have other pictures of buildings just a minute walk down the road that look brand new.

Hi Shawn
This is a really great shot..which gives a good idea of cuba.
I like this glory from the past.
Great colors and depth.

The gloom of the sky works well with the conditions of the derelict buildings. I can picture it new, now it looks like tarnished grandure. The car and cart add to this effect.

This is a very intersting shot full of intense history and decay..love the old ford. I met a cuban who told me they had to take apart old flashlight batteries to get the carbon elements to fix distributor caps because there are no actual parts available. You can fix this image a lot and make it pop by getting a copy of photoshop and fooling around with the levels. I'd use a sturation sponge to bring out some of the colors...keep it very low, like 15%. This could be an absoluely awesome image after you've fixed up the contrast and color.

Being a Cuban who saw the Malecon shortly after the Communist takeover, I think this pictures shows precisely how detrimental Castro's regime has been to the island. Once, the Malecon stood in all its splendor amongst some of the finest architecture in the Americas, and Havana was a place hard to match in beauty. The one positive thing about it all is that these buildings are so sturdily made that they will again regain their luster someday, just as the ones in Prague have. Good picture.

truth is there are better looking buildings, but this is the one that unfortunenatly represents what poverty the island's capital is going through and the island's people. it's also a shame the camera wasn't pointed to the view in front of that building...:

This is amazing and also sad. I really hope for this world, that people start to meet each other in the middle, give each other the freedom to live as they want, what ever direction, and soon countries like Kuba will be able to fix the beautyful places they have, and all the problems also ...

this is truly an amazing one... well i still in disagree with the comments... i've walk in front of those buildings, and in fact there is a lot of well conserved building like those you see at the right of this photograph, and also a lot of new buildings... not only at the Malecon, but also in the old habana...
