The herring gulls in St Ives wouldn't know a herring if they were hit by one. Pasty gulls and chip gulls now, they feed on our scraps and leftovers, and will steal ice-creams out of unsuspecting holidaymakers' hands. This one was wondering whether my camera was edible.... St Ives 5th May '04

Now this look like a bird with some serious personality. It would seem that he has a few words to say, but decided to rather keep his beak shut so not to cause too much of a scene. I think he would like to tell you that he is very unpleased with your decision to bring a tasty looking camera onto the beach then find out that you are keeping it for yourself. He thinks you are very greedy indeed. I am glad he never got your camera or we would never have seen this shot (and felt very sorry that you were out a very nice piece of equipment). This is one of the most interesting bird pictures I have seen in a long while. Right on, keep clickin'........................LPF
