Once he'd eaten his fill (see "Feed me, feed me") this sparrow was quite content to let me get up close and personal while he enjoyed a little afternoon rest :-)
"I never looked for it, gave it no name; yet I knew it always, when the gift of peace came. I stood quite still for the moment that it lasted...Then the light shifted slightly and the moment passed, leaving me...with the lasting echo of its presence.." Diana Gabaldon
That's some lovely detail of a very ordinary animal. You used one of the greatest rules of composition here too. You simplified your image. The subject is clearly visible, but the background is dramatically out of focus. This keeps the viewer from being distracted by unnecessary clutter. the colorful striations in the background help define the subject while the gentle colors soften the feel of the overall work. Nicely done.
Sparrows [or sparrers as Mary Poppins used to call them] are my favourite European birds - modest even humble yet brave as lions [little lions perhaps LOL] when need comes and tricky when they feel like it.
Lovely portrait ...
