Spotted this crane by a river in Switzerland - looks more like a scene from War of the Worlds.

The content of the shot is spectacular, Ray. The colors are wonderful and the scene is spot on. I think you must have run this through an HD filter because the noise is distracting. Additionally, there's a fine white line around the structures in the foreground, most notably around the chimney on the right.

I've noticed that HD and oversharpening can cause some deafening noise and the haloing effect. I'm certainly no expert on software. I have software that reduces noise, but then you also lose detail. When you figure out how to isolate the areas that need noise reduction from the rest of the shot, please let me know because I battle the same noise in many of my shots. Get rid of the noise and this shot is a solid 9 out of 10,

You're right about the noise Roger, that's often the price you pay for using an HDR module to boost the overall effect. As for the fringing I usually get this when I solarise an image which I haven't done here of course but I don't have an explanation for it. Ray.

Hi Ray, this shot is a bit mindblowing! There is so much going on and it would be amazing just with the mountains let alone that 'war of the worlds-esk' thing in the foreground! I totally agree with Roger about the noise but at the same time it adds an other worldy feel that goes with slightly alien construction! Fantastic and daring post with or without the noise, its a winner for me :)
