Chincoteague island in VA is known for its wild ponies. We visited last october and got many wonderful shots of these rare and beautiful animals. One of the annual attractions there is the pony roundup; where they heard them across the bay and capture a set amount for auction. The proceeds go to the local volunteer fire department. This particular little one was recently caught. We had the pleasure of taking many photos of this pony and others in the pen after the roundup. This particular one is my favorite though.

Such a cute expression on his face. Your image of him is so precious. I do hope they go to good homes. Thanks for the cute image. ♥ Sandi♥

Fine shot. Kind of like the wild ponies on Assateague Island off the coast of Ocean City, MD

Yes, that's basically the same place. We have pictures of the ones in the wildlife preserve and from the other island too.

G'day John,
A good portrait. Good dof - he's sharp the background isn't. Not always easy when the subject has lots of white and dark colouring, looks like you got it just right to me. You've captured some mood, some particular emotion, I can't put a word to it but it feels to me like more than merely a shot of a "pretty pony". Nice one.
Mikel.

I have been to Chincoteague and Asateague islands and loved seeing the ponies along the shore and throughout the island. What a wonderful place and I didn't know about the auction. You are right. This one is a beauty!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

My grandmother was born on Chincoteague and I spent a lot of my childhood there with family. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some good memories for me!
