We travelled to Bodie Island light as the last stop through the Outer Banks. We got there right before sunset. I think that turned out to for the better as this Light seems to stand out better in the evening. I couldn't help but put this together. I know it is not in the "golden third" or whatever, but the symmetry I could achieve with this was too much to resist. Enjoy!

I like this one a lot. I agree about the symmetry. Very nice lines and colours, also the light is beautiful. Very nice post!

Good composition and lines. I particularly like the magenta cast warming the picture of this sailor's friend.

It's a great shot!! How would it look if you waited until the moon is phased to where it is just above the light house at same time of day and shot it again with about 5 different settings?? Hmmm, just a thought.... You did good, keep it up and keep posting.

It is a nice shot, and you can get away with central positioning but it sure could have used more space/sky above to top. Running a singular prime subject right to the border takes your eye immediately out of the picture and has to work to get back in to see the secondary objects. Good composition relies on sufficient space for the eye to travel unimpeded in a circular or elliptical path, drawing you smoothly back to the prime subject for another trip. The vertical convergence due to the upwards tilted lens can be corrected, but not without losing about half of each side towards the lighthouse. Personally I like it the way it is as it tends to exaggerate the size of the entrance building. I'll send you copies of both to illustrate adding more sky and correcting perspective as there is a significant difference.
