Found this odd little building on a farm in the Northern part of the state. After backing up and seeing the sign, I wrote down what it said, It's an Iowa 150 Celebrate Our State sign. It said, "This gun tower or gun house was built by Col. John Wakefield in the 1850's for protection from the Indians". I thought it rather unique.

I can see the firing holes! Very unique for Iowa...lol...Never found an Indian relic yet. Cool find and excellent shot Carol!

That is a great looking old building, Carol. What a stroke of luck to find this place. It really make you go back in time, and imagine it being used to fight off the injuns! Your picture is fantastic!

What a wonderful capture of history and you captured this beautiful building 100%.Love the light and shade in this photo and the flowers at the enters to the building.I also noticed the old water pump at the side of the window too.Great photo and thanks for sharing and giving us the history behind the building.

Carol - A nice capture of this historic building. The small rifle ports seem oddly placed with the large window and doors on the floor below. But, there must have been reasons for this when built; perhaps the building had multiple purposes. Thad
