This is a type of peony that I spotted last Summer. At least I believe it is a peony as it was in with the others.

This is a Japanese type peony I believe. They are more saucer-like with a very large center. Lovely flower Carol.

Carol, Kathy may be right. It's pretty hard to determine the peony species by a single photograph (a wonderful photograph however!)
I thought initially that it was a Paeonia lactiflora.
