Carol, I suppose they're searching for shelter in order to prevent being a 'victim' the days before November 23th. The road is their fastest possibility to escape from being consumed then. If they won't succeed in doing this Thanksgiving will probably be their 'black Thursday', (😁) . An unique shot!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
From your photo, Carol, I can tell they are a little ways this side of the end of that concrete wall, so I'm hoping they got all the way across before a vehicle came over that hill. There is a flock of about 40 of these great birds that live wild in the woods between my city and the capital across the river, and unfortunately they too often try to cross the river between the cities on the interstate highway bridge, and some don't always make it across. But judging from your delightful post I'm guessing their journey that day turned out just foine (not a typo--just a wee bit Irish).
An unique shot!
