Found these Morris dancers strutting their stuff in Biddenden in Kent. Morris dancers can usually be found dancing on the 1st May each year outside village pubs waving their handkerchiefs, sticks or garlands and then throughout the summer and Autumn at various events. Morris dancing marks the return of Spring and goes back to at least the 15th Century. It was lost for a while except in a few villages, and then reinvented in a Folk revival in the late 19th century by folk music researcher Cecil Sharp. Today you will find not just men, but teams of women too dancing. They always seem to pull a crowd!
