Found these Morris dancers strutting their stuff in Biddenden in Kent. Morris dancers can usually be found dancing on the 1st May each year outside village pubs waving their handkerchiefs, sticks or garlands and then throughout the summer and Autumn at various events. Morris dancing marks the return of Spring and goes back to at least the 15th Century. It was lost for a while except in a few villages, and then reinvented in a Folk revival in the late 19th century by folk music researcher Cecil Sharp. Today you will find not just men, but teams of women too dancing. They always seem to pull a crowd!

So the men there do that when they have had a little too much to drink then? I just hope they keep their clothes on. LOL. Nice shot, Ann. I like the greens and the reds.

So, let me understand this correctly. The men dance together in teams. The women dance in teams as well. Morris Men dancing died out. Hum, could it be a numbers game? Maybe the population dwindled due to this team concept. Maybe the teams should have been mixed up a little! lol. Sorry Ann, I digress. You have a very enjoyable photo and a wonderful narrative. I must go, the pub just called my number and my table is ready.

Well they seem like a nice boys Ann. ;o)
An olde English event well captured, it's a difficult subject for an old city boy like me to relate too though. These were the kind of events the church was so keen to suppress, but the Morris dancers survived. :o)
Thanks for uploadin

Great clarity, colour & close up. This is really a great action shot & presentation with the frame adding that punch of colour.

Great shot Ann. I know from experience how difficult it is to get them in action - they wont keep still!! :) The look to be enjoying themselves :)
Yes, we have them here too believe it or not. Watched them in my hometown recently at a Victorian Heritage celebration. I love the music they dance to.

Well, boys will be boys, and if you play them a tune they might even dance for you!

Already said, but the colors and the capture of the action are terrific. Great people shot, and I'm not usually one to admire that genre.
