a belay device...i just liked how this looked and for those that dont know much about climbing here is what it is and what its used for: 'Belaying' is the process of controlling the amount of rope available (slang: 'paid out') to the climber therefore restricting how far the climber could fall. A belay device is used by the belayer. Belay devices add friction to the system and permits the belayer to stop the climber's fall.

so belaying is when someone wants to be belayed so they belay that person via the belayer while the belay device is belaying you ? LOL ?
