Found this Tricolored Heron alone walking along the beach at Dauphin Island, AL. The sun was harsh, so I tried to lighten the photo some. I may have lost some detail with that process, but I wanted to show his colors more.

Even Herons enjoy a stroll on the beach. This is a very different background for a the Heron shots. I like it with the cool textures. Very nice find Elizabeth.

Great capture..Love the detail and the bird...I haven't seen one of these yet......The only suggestion I could make is to give him more room in front of him to move....give the viewer an area to see where he is going and less behind him....other than that..I love it. Great post my friend.

That thing would make a good poster bird for Sherwin-Williams Paints. Gorgeous shot, Elizabeth.

He looks like a man with a mission... was there a crab shack down the way? :) Nice colors on the bird.

If I took a walk on the beach, that sand would be very hot on the bottoms of my feet. Do you think the Heron feels the heat of the sand? The coloring is extraordinary and I especially like the red strip down the front of the neck and down the middle of his back. That too, I wonder about, for what purpose did the stripe evolve? Elizabeth, two great pictures for you today.

Your narrative reminded me of Poor Little Robin Walking to Missouri. lol He's walking when he can fly. He has such a lovely form. Midday presents a real set of problems for photography, but sometimes you just have to take the shots when they come along and do the best with them. You did fine.
