From a visit in early December. This Great Blue Heron seems to guard this area of the tide pool near the pier. This particular day there was also one Reddish Egret, one Great White Egret all seemingly fishing together.

A REDdish egret, a great WHITE egret, and a BLUE heron? Hmmmm... maybe you ought to do a triptych of all three for early July? I know, bad joke, brain hurt, go to bed. I couldn't help it. Very nice shot of this heron anyway, Elizabeth. I can never get this close to them up here in the far north, even with a telephoto lens. Perhaps migrating birds are more skittish here, what with all the shotguns going off in the fall.

Liz, what excellent detail in the face and feathers. I agree with Nikoneer, you get such incredible close-ups of these beautiful birds.

Outstanding detail and the white sand really makes this heron standout with the help of the blue back ground.

He seems to be relishing in the Saint's Super Bowl victory E~. He looks all dressed up to go to the Fat Tuesday festivities.

Excellent shot.

Super detail in this heron, E. Excellent shot. I like the shot from behind, too, because it shows the feathers so well.

Superb capture and composition! I'm especially enjoying the foofyness to it's feathers, and the details within! I also like the texture to the white sands! Saved + faved.
