Had to get this fading bloom of a red trillium. Red trillium is also known as wake-robin, stinking Benjamin and Beth root. The flowers are dark maroon and usually appear in late April and May. Trilliums are sensitive to light and full sun exposure is detrimental. For this reason, selective lumber harvesting will not destroy a trillium colony, but clear-cutting will. Trillium flowers are a favourite source of food for deer, and repeated grazing will kill the plants.

Stinking Benjamin? Does it smell pretty bad? Nice clear shot of that wilted foofy. I like the light and shadows you have captured.

Looks great Ami. I like your idea for selective harvesting in the forests. That is how it should be. Your plant is huge. Great post.

Really great capture Ami, it's too bad you didn't get it at the height of it's bloom. They are so very beautiful. We have a lot of white ones up here near me.
