This is a most excellent first attempt! The jewel is spectacularly beautiful. The gold framing is great as well.

I only wish such a rare gem didn't look as if it were mounted in red plastic; can you make it like it's made of the same precious stone as the centerpiece?

As we all love this sort of thing, I do hope you'll keep 'em coming.

P.S. My own personal taste would have you not emphasize the jagged, spikey, sharp shapes. But that's just me.

I am a little undecided on the reflection of the jewel though. Need to take that aspect in some more, and I am curious as to what your impressions of this piece are now. Particularly, since in my mind it is obvious that you have progressed in your work.
