Our neighbour asked me to create a picture of this flower to suit A2 sized paper. So I drew it by hand in Illustrator and shrunk it down to a wallpaper size. It's only the second flower I've drawn in Illustrator. Let me know what you think and thanks for looking (and if anyone can tell me the correct spelling for it's name, that would be nice... lol).

Very nice Realism! Extremely well done!
I think I would have used the clone tool to clone out the white line around the green area of the stem. Either making it green, or cloning in the black from the very nice background.

From the thumbnail it looked so like a photo - the full size version really shows a beautiful lily - drawn with great expertise. It is lovely.

"Zantedeschia is a genus of twenty-eight species of herbaceous flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa north to Malawi. The name of the genus was given as a tribute to Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773-1846) by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel (1766 - 1833). Common names include Arum lily for Z. aethiopica, calla, and calla lily for Z. elliottiana and Z. rehmannii although it is neither a true lily (Liliaceae), nor Arum or Calla (related genera in Araceae). It is also often erroneously spelled as "cala lily".

And that concludes the informational part of this commentary, now then your image here ...

Had me fooled too Paul. In thumbnail size, certainly looks like a photo ... even in full size view, the lighting is exquisite.

Only shortcoming, and this is really nit picking ... blending at the stalk and bloom gives away the fact that the viewer is looking at an illustration.

First flower? Hand drawn? Take a bow. Very nice work and a good composition as well. Curious as to whether or not you kept the landscape orientation in the full 'full' size version. Might be interesting to play around a bit with that element.

That said ... once again ... nicely done. :o)
