Dusk falls on the river Ouse in York in late autumn. Half an hour earlier the riverside walk had been thronged with tourists and boats crowded the river. I thought this image captured the mood of a city turning itself down for the night. Enjoy
'Cause..
In taking a look at the largest resolution size, not that of the suggested one for me (540 X 720) ... your photo does reveal much more detail in the shadows.
Compositionally?
Of two minds, with respect to how you framed your image. Initially, had the thought that an either/or might work better and still convey that of the night descending on the city.
Meaning, panning to the right and capturing more of the water .. or .. focussing on the repetitive shapes/forms of the benches lining the walkway.
Have an editing suggestion for you..
Using the Photoshop Curves Tool
About two-thirds of the way down the above linked page, 'Transition of Clipped Highlights'.
The area in and about the one light source seems to have been clipped. Perhaps, applying the suggestion of shaping the upper right section of the Curves ... might mitigate the clipping?
If your camera has the option of auto-bracketing, that might be something to keep in mind when faced with such challenging lighting conditions as well. Or play around with the Exposure Compensation settings on their own.
And bearing in mind my CRT monitor viewing handicap ... be curious as to how the scene translates on an LCD/LED monitor.
Very deep, rich colours. And it is a pleasant scene to view.
Edit: Oops..
Had my monitor's brightness/contrast turned down. Just caught your posting from today and made the correction.
