Thank you for your kind words, everyone. As near as I can tell, it's a very *non*-poisonous black rat snake. You can't really see in this particular angle, but it had been wounded, presumably trying to get out of the way of a car or some such.

Good capture. Must see this in full size to fully appreciate it. Great depth of field, with the snake's eye is so clear and the individual scales detailed. This is a very good shot.

nice shot and good perspective .. er, i believe you would have checked your surroundings before you snap this guy, in case his buddies happen to be around. perhaps at some nice cool nook around the corner .. and nearer ... :)
