They seem a bit of an odd couple but relationships sometimes are a bit odd. In the wild, it is called a symbiotic relationship. Here is more information on the subject.

Because of the symbiotic relationship, this bird could be an oxpecker, a bird that land on elephants, where they eat lice, ticks, and other parasites living on elephants' skin and hair.

Think to see that this elephant is grateful for this relationship by sounding its 'trumpet', 😜
