There were a pair of blue jays flying back and forth to a nest behind the fence so i sat with my camera hoping to catch a good photo

It looks like it was worth your time! This is a very beautiful shot of this adorable blue birdie.

Great shot. These guys are really protective of their little ones. They are not afraid of anything when it comes to the babies. That is as it should be, of course.. The grown-ups are pretty..The new babies, well, that is another story..LOL

I love how narrow the focus area is - solely around the blue jay, really forces your eye right there!

I don't reply much because I'm a really busy guy, but I appreciate all your comments!

gorgeous. Simply stunning. The colors and design on his wings is so fantastic, thanks for waiting long enough to capture and share!

Sorry, but, I disagree with all the above...sorry friend. It is very tough to get birds to sit still for a take, I know.

The overall placement lacks as well as the detail. I do like his expression and the colorings look spot on!! Sometimes ya gotta wait a REALLY l o n g time before ya get a nice shot.

Keep playin' & havin' fun....that's rules #1 thru #10 for me and keep posting as we always wanns see more!!

Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

I would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and i agree that the placement wasn't ideal at the time i was experimenting with my new tripod and i am still getting used to it. I would have like to get more of the tail feathers in the shot. and i felt that the clarity wasn't there for this shot. part of the problem was i had to compensate because of the location of the birds nest. they were landing in shadow.
