I hesitate to offer this photo. I took it recently at Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland. I am interested in your comments.

Terrible times then! .. Hard to believe, the mentality of people that can do things like that! ..

A sobering image to be sure but one that serves as an important reminder of the horror people had to endure...something most of us will never see so thank you for sharing this.

Glad you kept this in b/w. Makes it more real and vivid. Almost like a photo from the Allies Archives. It looks harsh
like the times were. Except 10 fold. Nice post of a terrible time in history. We must never forget.

Some of us will never have the chance to visit a place like this. Seeing the pictures someone else takes and shares with us can only help remind of us of the horrors that so many were forced to endure

"Dachau?" was my first thought. But I didn't remember the bunks abutting the windows there...

The b&w does have an interesting dual effect -- makes the image more timeless and powerful while also making it in some way more distant and so more bearable to contemplate. The light filtering in all the way down the aisle to the most distant point of the picture is well captured and leads you deeper into both the picture and the prisoners' world.

Thank you for posting this.

I simply must add that the image shows a Nazi concentration [= death in this case] camp located in Poland.
When I was visiting this place - years ago in the early 1980' - there I met two groups of very young visitors - a German and a Jewish one. Nothing happenned - I was the only one person sobbing hysterically - also at this encounter. That was long ago and nowadays no young people seem to remember/know much about who did what and to whom and even less why ...
Forgive my very sad tone but my mood in general is very bad these days ... Some you know.
